Gender Equality Index
Article L1142-8 of the French Labor Code stipulates that companies with over 50 employees are required to publish an annual gender equality index. This index makes it possible to assess the existence and extent of any inequalities within the company, and to encourage employers to remedy them. The gender equality index is a tool for assessing the pay gap between men and women in a company. It is calculated on the basis of 4 or 5 indicators, depending on the size of the company (under or over 250 employees). The indicators are as follows:
- Gender pay gap (40 points)
- Difference in the rate of individual increases between women and men (20 points)
- Difference in promotion rates between women and men (15 points)
- Percentage of female employees who received a raise in the year following their return from maternity leave (15 points)
- The number of employees of the under-represented sex among the top 10 earners (10 points)
